Natural Mineral Waters Europe (NMWE) has been selected by the European Commission to join its Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform, representing the natural mineral and spring water sector in discussions on water management and resilience across the EU.
The platform's first meeting brought together stakeholders from various sectors to identify priorities for its future work, with European commissioner Jessika Roswall highlighting the shared responsibility of industries in promoting water stewardship.
Nature-based solutions, including the proposed Sponge Facility, emerged as the leading priority for the Platform's work in 2027-28. Discussions also covered the role of agriculture in strengthening water resilience, alongside the need to raise public awareness of water pricing, cost recovery and the polluter-pays principle.
The European Commission also outlined its ongoing efforts to improve water efficiency, including the development of a methodology and framework aimed at supporting broader water resilience objectives.
Looking ahead, the platform is expected to establish thematic sub-groups based on stakeholders' areas of interest, allowing for more focused discussions on key water management challenges.
Through its participation, NMWE aims to contribute the perspective of the natural mineral and spring water industry to EU discussions on water resilience and responsible resource management.
